ENUGU STATE CIVIL SOCIETY FORUM APPLAUD FG FOR THE PASSAGE OF THE SOUTHEAST DEVELOPMENT COMMISSION BILL

Enugu State Civil Society Forum (ESCSF) extends warm congratulations to all the National Assembly members representing the Southeast geopolitical zone for the successful passage of the Southeast Development Commission (SEDC), and also commend their strong commitment in projecting the general interest of the Southeast in the Nigeria political landscape. The passage of the Southeast Development Commission bill is a great achievement that deserves celebration.

ESCSF thank the President of Nigeria, H.E. Sen. Bola Ahmed Tinubu for his relentless efforts in demonstrating inclusion leadership in the country. This epoch making event calls for wide celebration and we use this medium to appeal to the Federal Executive Council to ensure adequate funding is provided for the commission to actualize its vision for the people of Southeast geopolitical zone.

The Deputy Speaker of the Federal House of Representatives (Rt. Hon. Benjamin Kalu) has recorded yet another great achievement to his beautiful political career as the sponsor of the bill for the establishment of Southeast Development Commission (SEDC). We praise him for his visionary leadership and commend his wisdom in pursuing and actualizing a wonderful initiative that will improve the welfare and well-being of the people living in the Southeast geopolitical zone.

ESCSF as a civil society coalition will continue to serve as the mouthpiece of the people, by ensuring that adequate measures are in place for transparency, accountability and general public service delivery of the commission for the people. We note that it is our collective responsibility as people to constantly demand for the dividends of democracy and we will not relent to advocate where and when necessary.

ESCSF on this hand wish to encourage every stakeholder to jointly support the development of the Southeast geopolitical zone, which has in recent time recorded some levels of decline in the aggregate development indices, when compared to other geopolitical zones.
